These photographs of a geometer's university office were taken in the months before his retirement. A workspace for teaching, talking, working things out, daydreaming - the room has filled over the years with books and papers, diagrams and models, and the souvenirs of a working life both sociable and solitary.

This photographic series is a consideration of reverie and situated memory. The contours of a place distilled into details as much remembered as seen. In a room where everything is known to the hand, plain things carry a specific weight, an emotional shadow. Our surroundings imprint while we are lost in thought.

An interior can form a portrait. It offers derived outlines of the physical and thinking self.
